Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Local and Regional Truck Dispatcher position holds a key role in the Total Xpress organization. Our drivers are exceptionally important to us. Their safe and productive operation is the backbone of our successful operation in terms of safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Total Xpress has a legacy of success in the Columbus market and this role will continue to support these expectations as we grow into a more regional operation. Duties would include, but not limited to,

  • Dispatching of both company drivers and owner-operators
  • Customer service
  • Flexible work hours
  • Manage asset truck dispatch in dynamic and dedicated environment
  • Utilize load board and direct customer inquiry to identify continuous move or back-haul opportunities
  • Work with Total Xpress colleagues on intermodal dispatch to identify synergies and opportunities to fully utilize company assets.
  • Assist company sales effort in new customer engagement, opportunity assessment, route design
  • Resolve freight discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Respond to customer concerns and queries professionally.
  • Maintain positive and productive relationship with customers.
  • Identify and contact qualified carriers for freight services.
  • Negotiate contract and pricing agreements with carrier
  • Contact current and potential customers for new business opportunities
Experience and Skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Exel, Word
  • Proficient in Transportation Management Systems; concept, data entry
  • Able to organize load plans and manage drivers
  • Excellent communicator both with internal and external customers
  • Able to identify market opportunities and work well with internal sales team
  • Experience with Profit Tools a bonus

Responsible for transporting safely goods from one place to another using company-owned heavy or tractor-trailer trucks. Loads vary from handling ISO Ocean containers, to Domestic intermodal 53’ trailers, to standard dry vans. Owner operator and Company-owned equipment

Primary responsibilities
  • Deliver goods while operating a tractor-trailer truck, sometimes over intercity routes or spanning regional states.
  • No driver unload or driver assist
  • Short-haul, city of Columbus, Long-haul, Chicago, Detroit, Louisville
  • Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows.
  • Report to a dispatcher any incidents encountered on the road.
  • Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws.
  • Inspect their trailer before and after the trip, and record any defects they find.
  • Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs.
  • Keep a log of their activities.
  • Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel.
  • Keep their truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order.
  • Plan routes using maps or satellite tracking.
  • Get goods to client on time.
  • Take rest periods during trip.
  • Transport hazardous materials.
  • Take special precautions while driving.
  • Buy or lease trucks from other companies.
  • Maintain log of trips.
  • Maintain safe company-owned equipment
